The Youth Project – Voices of a Generation

Since 2018, the climate movement has been transformed by youth activism. Inspired by Greta Thunberg, young people across the globe have organized school strikes, led protests, and challenged political leaders to take urgent climate action. Their voices have reshaped public debate, pushed climate justice higher on the agenda, and inspired a new wave of civic engagement.

Recognizing the significance of this movement, the MediaClimate Network launched The Youth Project in 2019. Researchers from more than twenty countries interviewed 31 young climate leaders in 23 countries, exploring their experiences as activists, their reflections on media coverage of climate change, and their views on the power of youth-led action.

The findings were published in Climatic Change (2021) as “Voices of a generation: The communicative power of youth activism” (read here). This work highlights how young activists are not only demanding action but also reframing the climate conversation in ways that connect urgency, justice, and hope.
